I Won’t Go On Forever If I Am a Puff of Smoke

You are a puff of smoke that appears briefly and then disappears
Letter of James(4:14)

One of the joys of being young is that you don’t conceive of your life as having an expiration date. You can plan for tomorrow and the foreseeable future and feel reasonably certain you are going to have an opportunity to follow up on those plans.

But when a person is in the process of kicking and screaming into Old Age, one of the first things you realize is that there never was such a guarantee. In fact, the first part of the Biblical verse I quoted says as much by reminding us that we have no idea what tomorrow brings. It is easy to put thoughts like this in the back of your mind when you are young. The kicking and screaming really begins when this concept moves from the back to the front of the mind and then lodges there like a block of concrete.

No one likes the aging process. Although it is inevitable, it is inevitably a difficult journey. If you are anything like me, you are making it kicking and screaming the whole way.
